Chapter 10 - The Peaceful Night

That evening, the sun set in brilliant shades of pink and gold across our peaceful suburban street.

After a long day playing at the park, Lily was thoroughly exhausted. She brushed her teeth, put on her favorite pajamas, and jumped into her newly renovated bed.

The room was bathed in the warm, gentle light of a nightlight shaped like a star. The mint-green walls felt cozy and bright. The floor beneath her bed was solid, clean, and fully visible.

I tucked the soft blanket snugly around her shoulders.

"How does the bed feel tonight, sweetheart?" I asked softly, smoothing back her hair just as I had months ago.

Lily stretched her arms out wide, sinking deeply into her comfortable mattress with a long, happy sigh. She looked up at me with bright, sleepy eyes and smiled.

"It feels perfect, Mommy," she whispered. "Not tight at all."

I kissed her cheek, filled with a deep sense of relief and quiet gratitude. "Goodnight, my brave little detective."

"Goodnight, Mommy."

I stepped out of the room, leaving the door cracked open just a bit. As I walked down the hallway to join Daniel in the living room, I took a long, deep breath. The house was quiet, secure, and filled with warmth.

There were no more noises in the night. No more hidden secrets beneath the floorboards. Just the quiet peace of a home restored, a mystery solved, and a family safe at last.
