Chapter 10 - A Garden Full of Roses

Two years later, on a warm spring morning, the iron gates of the Whitaker estate opened for a joyful occasion.

The lawn was dressed in soft white drapery and flower arches. The six daughters served as maid of honor and bridesmaids, wearing matching soft blush gowns. Hazel, now fourteen and a confident young woman, stood proudly at the head of the altar alongside her sisters.

Jonathan stood at the front, looking breathtakingly handsome, his eyes fixed on the end of the aisle.

When the music started, Nora appeared, walking down the white aisle in an elegant lace gown, holding a bouquet of white roses. Her hair fell in soft curls around her shoulders, and her smile lit up the entire hillside.

As she reached Jonathan, he took her hands into his, tears glistening in his eyes.

"Thirty-seven people ran away from this house," Jonathan whispered softly so only she could hear. "And the thirty-eighth saved my life."

"I didn't run," Nora smiled softly, "because I found my home."

They exchanged vows surrounded by their family, friends, and the six young girls who cheered loudly as Jonathan dipped Nora for a passionate, joyful kiss.

That evening, as the sun set over San Diego, painting the sky in shades of crimson and gold, Jonathan and Nora sat on the terrace porch swing. The six girls were playing tag on the pristine lawn below, their laughter echoing through the warm summer air.

The house that was once dubbed a "hell" had become a sanctuary of love, resilience, and second chances—a testament to the power of patience, deep empathy, and a love that healed what money never could.
