Chapter 6 - The Doctor's Downfall

Nathan gasped in sheer terror as I pulled him hard toward the edge. He scrambled backward, losing his balance and falling flat on his back, while Victoria screamed in shock.
I stood up straight on the landing, completely clear-headed, glaring down at them both.
"What... what is this?!" Nathan stammered, his face turning pale as chalk. "You... you drank the tea!"
"Did you really think I’d swallow poison served by a man who burns a child’s drawing?" I said, my voice echoing across the high ceilings of the mansion.
Victoria backed away toward the stairs. "Nathan, she's crazy! Call Latham! Call the security team!"
Suddenly, bright blue and red lights flashed outside the glass walls, illuminating the rain-streaked windows. Sirens blared in the driveway, shattering the quiet night.
Before Nathan could scramble to his feet, the heavy double front doors burst open.
A squad of armed police officers, flanked by state investigators and federal agents, poured into the foyer with guns drawn.
"Police! Nobody move! Hands where we can see them!" shouted the lead detective.
At the front of the police tactical team walked Ethan Vance, accompanied by a woman in a sharp gray suit—the Chief of the Seattle Field Office for the FBI.
"Nathan Caldwell! Victoria Vance!" the lead officer announced. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, wire fraud, and illegal distribution of controlled substances!"
"This is a mistake!" Nathan yelled, panic cracking his voice as officers forced him to his knees and slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. "My wife is mentally unstable! She’s hallucinating! I was just helping her upstairs!"
"Save it for court, Mr. Caldwell," the FBI agent interrupted cold-heartedly. "We've been monitoring your live audio and video stream for the last twenty minutes. Every word of your plan was recorded in high-definition video and broadcast directly to federal servers."
Victoria began to sob hysterically as an officer cuffed her hands behind her back. "It was his idea! He forced me! He embezzled the funds!"
"Shut up, Victoria!" Nathan roared, turning his fierce rage toward her.
Down the driveway, a secondary police cruiser intercepted a black luxury sedan attempting to park near the gate. Inside was Dr. Latham, carrying a medical bag filled with illegal sedatives and pre-signed death certificates. He was arrested on the spot as an accomplice to attempted homicide.
As the officers dragged Nathan toward the front door, he looked back at me, his eyes filled with pure venom.
"You think you won, Audrey?!" he spat, struggling against the officers. "Caldwell Pacific is MY company! You have nothing! Without me, you are a nobody!"
I walked slowly down the stairs, stepping past the broken porcelain cup, and stopped right in front of him.
"You never owned Caldwell Pacific, Nathan," I said calmly, pulling a bound legal document from my sweater pocket and slipping it into his jacket pocket. "Read the filings. Aegis Capital LLC owns 70% of the voting stock. And I am the sole owner of Aegis."
Nathan’s jaw dropped. The color completely drained from his face as the realization hit him like a physical blow.

"You... you were the Delaware investor?" he whispered in horror.
"I built you," I said softly, touching his cheek with cold detachment. "And tonight, I broke you."
