Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Happiness

Two years after the storm, our lives were unrecognizable in the best possible way.

Olivia was thriving in middle school, her artwork winning awards at regional exhibitions—using a brand-new, professional set of markers that no one would ever ruin again. Ethan was ten now, pitching for his Little League team, his laughter echoing across the diamond during weekend games.

I stood in the stands, cheering loudly alongside my sister and a close circle of genuine friends who had supported us through it all. I looked vibrant, healthy, and deeply at peace.

That evening, we hosted a backyard barbecue to celebrate the end of the school year. The yard was filled with string lights, the smell of grilled food, and the joyful chaotic noise of children playing.

As the sun began to set, casting a beautiful amber and purple glow across the sky, Ethan ran up to me and handed me a small, beautifully polished piece of wood. It was a brand-new, perfectly crafted miniature propeller.

"For our next project, Mom," he said, his eyes shining with excitement. "A bigger plane. One we build from scratch."

I smiled, pulling both him and Olivia into a tight embrace.

I had once thought that patience and endurance were the keys to holding a family together. I was wrong. The true foundation of a home is mutual respect, unwavering love, and the courage to protect the people who cherish you.

We had built a sanctuary out of the ruins, and looking at my children’s happy, smiling faces, I knew that our future was soaring higher than any airplane could ever reach. We were finally, beautifully, completely home.
