Chapter 9 - A New Foundation

Three years passed, bringing profound transformation to the Arriaga home.

The cold, sterile mansion in Lomas de Chapultepec had been renovated into a warm, welcoming family estate filled with light, laughter, and green plants. Alejandro shifted his business focus, launching a major philanthropic foundation dedicated to funding pediatric medical care and protecting vulnerable children across Mexico.

Lucía excelled in her university studies, graduating at the top of her class in Child Psychology. Her practical experience, deep empathy, and dedication made her one of the most promising young minds at the institution.

Emiliano blossomed into a confident, healthy, and vibrant thirteen-year-old boy. He excelled in school and sports, his past trauma replaced by the unconditional love and security of his home.

Throughout those three years, the quiet respect between Alejandro and Lucía slowly evolved into a deep, tender, and unshakeable love. It was not built on sudden passion or superficial glamour, but on mutual trust, shared hardship, and genuine admiration.

On a warm spring evening, Alejandro took Lucía to the tranquil gardens at the back of the estate—the very spot where three years earlier they had celebrated Emiliano’s complete recovery.

The garden was illuminated by soft string lights hanging from the trees, and the air was sweet with the scent of blooming jasmine.

"Lucía," Alejandro said gently, taking both of her hands in his.

Lucía looked up at him, her eyes bright with affection. "Yes, Alejandro?"

"Three years ago, my life was a nightmare," Alejandro spoke, his voice filled with deep emotion. "I had wealth, power, and success, but I was completely blind. I was losing my son, and I didn't even know how to save him. Then you walked into our lives. You brought truth when everyone else was lying. You brought healing when everything was broken."

He dropped to one knee, pulling a small wooden box from his pocket. Inside rested a simple, elegant ring with an emerald green stone—the color of hope.

"You gave my son his life back, and you gave me a reason to love again," Alejandro said, looking up into her eyes. "I don't want a life without you, Lucía. Will you do us the honor of becoming my wife and officially making our family whole?"

Tears of pure happiness streamed down Lucía’s cheeks. She looked past Alejandro and saw Emiliano standing near the patio doors, holding a banner he had drawn himself that read: SAY YES, LUCÍ!

Lucía laughed through her tears and nodded repeatedly. "Yes! Yes, Alejandro! A thousand times yes!"

Alejandro stood up, slipped the ring onto her finger, and pulled her into a warm, lingering embrace as Emiliano ran across the grass to throw his arms around them both.
