Chapter 8 - Healing the Broken

Alejandro handed Lucía a thick folder. She opened it curiously and found official admission documents to the prestigious Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for a degree in Child Psychology, along with a full scholarship covering all tuition, living expenses, and housing.
Lucía’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Mr. Alejandro... I... I can't accept this. This is too much!"
"It isn't enough," Alejandro insisted, smiling warmly. "You have a natural gift with children, Lucía. You saved my son because you understood his pain when nobody else did. You belong in a place where you can learn to save hundreds of children like him."
Tears welled up in Lucía’s eyes. Growing up in a small, impoverished village in Oaxaca, higher education had always been a distant, impossible dream.
"But... what about Emiliano?" Lucía asked, wiping a tear. "I don't want him to feel like I’m abandoning him."
"You aren't leaving us," Alejandro said softly, his voice carrying a deeper, warmer tone that made Lucía’s heart skip a beat. "You will live here as long as you want. You are part of this family now, Lucía. If you agree, you can study during the day, and this house will always be your home."
That evening, Alejandro, Emiliano, and Lucía sat down for dinner in the main dining room. For the first time since Alejandro’s late wife had passed away years ago, the room didn't feel cold or empty.
Emiliano was laughing, eating heartily, and telling stories about his school projects.
"Dad!" Emiliano said suddenly, putting his fork down. "Can Lucía come to my soccer match this Saturday? She promised she would teach me how they play in Oaxaca!"
Alejandro looked over at Lucía, who blushed softly. "If Lucía isn't too busy with her new university prep, I think that’s a wonderful idea."
"I would love to come, Emiliano," Lucía said gently.
Later that night, after Emiliano was fast asleep in his room—sleeping peacefully without any nightmares or pain—Alejandro and Lucía stood on the wide balcony overlooking the garden under the starlit sky.
"Thank you, Lucía," Alejandro said quietly, leaning against the marble railing.
"For what, Mr. Alejandro?"

"For bringing life back into this house," Alejandro replied, turning to look into her eyes. "For making my son feel safe again. And... for making me realize how blind I was to what truly matters."
Lucía looked at him, feeling the warmth of his gaze. In the quiet of the night, the vast distance between their worlds—between a wealthy tycoon and a humble nanny—seemed to vanish completely.
