Chapter 8 - Redemption in the Crimson Hour

The next forty-eight hours were a blur of caffeine, code, and constant monitoring. Melissa’s "Hack the Code" campaign went live at noon.

By 3:00 PM, it was the number-one trending topic on social media. Millions of users were actively trying to decrypt the clues Melissa's team had hidden across the web. NexaCorp's brand sentiment did a complete U-turn, shifting from anger over a leak to absolute excitement for the upcoming product launch.

On Friday evening, the CEO of NexaCorp personally called me.

"Arthur, I don't know who came up with this 'hacked' campaign," the CEO laughed over the speakerphone, "but it’s the most brilliant piece of marketing we've ever had. Our pre-orders are up by three hundred percent. We want to sign a five-year contract extension with Vanguard."

"I will pass the praise along to the director of the project," I replied, smiling. "She deserves all the credit."

After hanging up, I walked down to the Apex floor. The entire department was celebrating. Music was playing, and employees were laughing and clinking glasses of sparkling cider.

In the center of the room stood Melissa. She wasn't standing apart from them anymore; she was right there in the middle, laughing, hugging Sarah, and raising her glass to her team.

When she saw me, she stepped away from the crowd and walked over.

"We did it," she whispered, her eyes shining with tears of relief and joy.

"You did it, Melissa," I corrected her. "You saved this company forty million dollars, and more importantly, you saved the jobs of the people in this room. Your ninety-day probation is officially over. As of this moment, you are the permanent Creative Director of Apex, with a significant raise."

She closed her eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath. "Thank you, Arthur. Not just for the job. But for... for not giving up on me when I was at my worst."

"We are family, Melissa," I said, pulling her into a warm hug. "We might have had a rocky start, but we finish strong."
