Chapter 10 - A New Dawn for Danny

As the sun began to set, casting golden light across the garden, Danny ran up the deck steps, panting and laughing, with Hero trotting happily right behind him.
He threw his small arms around my waist, leaning against me.
"Mommy," he said, looking up at me with his big, shining eyes. "This is the best day ever."
I knelt down on one knee, gently wiping a smudge of dirt off his nose, smiling warmly. "Every day is going to be the best day now, Danny."
He looked at me thoughtfully, holding his favorite dinosaur toy in one hand and my hand in the other.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Remember when I came into your room that night when I was scared?" he asked softly.
"I remember every single second of it," I replied softly, rubbing his shoulder.
"I was so worried that Daddy was going to ruin everything," Danny whispered. "But you were like a superhero. You stopped him."
I felt a warm tear slip down my cheek—not a tear of sorrow or fear, but a tear of deep, overflowing gratitude and love. I cupped his soft face in my hands, looking straight into his heart.
"I wasn't a superhero, Danny," I said gently. "You were the brave one. You came to me and told me the truth. You saved both of us. You gave Mommy the courage to stand up and fight for our family."
Danny grinned, his chest puffing out with pride. "So we're a team?"
"The best team in the whole world," I smiled, pulling him into a tight, lingering hug.
Later that night, after our guests had departed and the stars twinkled brightly in the clear night sky, I tucked Danny into his bed. I kissed his forehead, pulling his soft blanket up to his chin. Hero curled up at the foot of his bed, letting out a soft sigh of contentment.
"Goodnight, my brave boy," I whispered softly.
"Goodnight, Mommy. I love you."
"I love you more than all the stars in the sky."
I walked down the hallway to my bedroom and opened the French doors leading out onto the balcony. A cool, gentle evening breeze brushed against my face.
Looking out over the peaceful neighborhood, I felt an overwhelming sense of profound calm and contentment.
