Chapter 10 - The Brightest Light

The morning sun streamed through the windows of our new home, a cozy, light-filled house surrounded by a sprawling garden.

"Mommy! Look what I drew!"

A sweet, high-pitched voice echoed from the kitchen. I walked in to see three-year-old Lily proudly holding up a sheet of paper. It was a chaotic, beautiful mess of bright yellow and green crayons.

"It's a big dinosaur for big brother Ethan in heaven!" she beamed, her bright eyes shining with innocence.

Julian walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing the side of my head. "I think it belongs on the refrigerator," he said with a smile.

"Definitely on the refrigerator," I agreed, taking the drawing and taping it proudly next to a framed photograph of Ethan smiling in his superhero pajamas.

I looked at the photograph, then at my beautiful daughter, and finally into the warm, loving eyes of the husband who stood by my side through every joy and every sorrow.

The pain of losing Ethan would never entirely leave me; it was a part of who I was. But it no longer defined me. Out of the deepest darkness, I had fought my way back to the light. I had kept my promise to my boy. I had built a life of love, purpose, and profound happiness—a life where no call would ever go unanswered, and where love would always find its way home.
