Chapter 6 - The Trap Begins to Close

The room fell into an absolute, suffocating silence.

Hannah turned to her husband, her face pale. "Robert? What... what is she talking about? You've never been to Oregon."

Robert didn't panic. He let out a soft, amused chuckle, taking off his wet gloves and placing them neatly on the console table.

"The poor child is severely medicated and confused," Robert said smoothly, looking at Thomas. "Dad, you can't possibly believe the ramblings of a traumatized teenager. I have dedicated the last ten years of my life to serving this family and managing your private real estate portfolio."

"That's how you did it," I realized, the financial puzzle suddenly clicking into place. "The real estate portfolio! Two years ago, Turner Smart Tech acquired three warehouse properties outside Portland. The purchase was signed off by you, Robert. Those weren't commercial warehouses—they were the holding facilities where Arthur was keeping Lily!"

Robert's smooth smile twitched for just a fraction of a second.

"Check the corporate accounts, David!" I urged, pulling out my tablet. "I spent all morning tracing the offshore transfers. Millions of dollars were routed through our shell companies into a private trust registered in the Cayman Islands under the name Arcadia Holdings. Robert is the sole director of Arcadia!"

"Hannah," Robert said, turning to his wife, his voice dropping to a persuasive, gentle whisper. "They are framing me to cut us out of the inheritance. You know how much your father has always favored David and Nancy. They're using this girl to take everything away from us."

Hannah looked back and forth between her husband and her family, tears welling in her eyes. "Robert... tell me it's not true. Tell me you didn't do this."

"Of course it's not true, darling," Robert said, taking a step toward her.

"Stay away from her!" Thomas roared, raising his heavy wooden cane and stepping between Robert and Hannah. The old man's eyes burned with a furious fire. "I built this company with Julian Collins! He was my best friend, my brother in innovation! When he died, I suspected foul play, but I couldn't prove it. When I saw Julian's master code appearing on the black market, I knew his killer was using his legacy—and using my own family to do it!"

Robert sighed deeply. The polite, polished son-in-law vanished. His eyes grew cold, hard, and utterly ruthless.

"You were always too sentimental, Thomas," Robert said, his tone turning dangerously flat. "Julian was a genius, but he was weak. He wanted to give his encryption away for free to public infrastructure. Do you have any idea how many billions of dollars that code is worth on the defense market?"

Hannah stumbled back, clutching her chest. "Robert... you... you really did it?"

"I did what was necessary to secure our future!" Robert snapped, looking at Hannah with cold contempt. "Your father was getting old, soft, spending millions on your mother's hopeless medical treatments while the company sat on a goldmine! Arthur and I had a simple arrangement. He would get Julian's personal assets, and I would take control of Turner Smart Tech's global patents!"

"You monster," David spat, lunging forward, but Thomas held him back.

"And now," Robert smirked, pulling a small black remote control from his inner coat pocket, "it doesn't matter what you know."

He pressed a button on the remote.

Instantly, the electronic shutters across the entire mansion slammed down with a deafening CRASH. Every window, every door, every emergency exit was instantly sealed behind thick steel security plates. The main lights flickered and died, plunging the grand mansion into red emergency lighting.

The house had become an impenetrable fortress—and we were trapped inside.
