Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Ten years later, the house on Elm Street looked entirely different—and entirely wonderful. The front garden was a lush paradise of blooming hydrangeas and vibrant roses, tended with care by Lily and me over the years.
Today was a day of celebration. The backyard was strung with fairy lights and draped in white linen ribbons. Folding chairs were arranged neatly across the manicured lawn, and the sound of soft acoustic guitar music drifted through the warm afternoon air.
Lily, now twenty-two years old and a proud college graduate with a degree in architecture, stood in front of the full-length mirror in her bedroom, adjusting the elegant sapphire-blue dress she wore for her graduation party.
I stood in the doorway, watching her with a heart full of boundless pride and overwhelming joy. The little girl who had once crept silently into the kitchen, clutching a glass of water and whispering a life-saving warning, had grown into a brilliant, compassionate, and fiercely independent young woman.
“How does it look, Mom?” Lily asked, turning around with a radiant smile that mirrored my own.
“You look breathtaking, sweetheart,” I said, stepping forward to adjust the collar of her dress. “Your grandmother would have been so proud of you. I am so proud of you.”
“We did it together,” Lily said softly, wrapping her arms around my neck in a tight, loving embrace. “We made it.”

Yes, we had made it. The dark chapters of the past were nothing more than distant memories, completely eclipsed by the bright, beautiful reality we had built with our own hands, courage, and unconditional love.
As guests began to arrive, filling the backyard with laughter, congratulations, and warm embraces, Lily and I walked out together into the golden afternoon sunlight. Our home stood tall and proud behind us—a true sanctuary of peace, safety, and everlasting happiness.
