Chapter 5 - Madeline's Master Plan Unravels

The revelation struck the room like a thunderbolt. Brandon staggered backward, dropping into the chair, his face entirely drained of color. The universe had just flipped upside down. The woman who had accused me of infidelity, the woman who had cast doubt on our son's legitimacy, was the one who had been carrying a dark, fraudulent secret for over thirty years.

"That's... that's impossible," Brandon stammered, his voice trembling. "My mother... my father... they were married for thirty-five years until he passed away. I am an only child. I inherited everything because I am the sole heir of Arthur Vance!"

Suddenly, the puzzle pieces began to click into place in my mind. The strange calm Madeline had shown when Brandon told her to leave. Her absolute confidence that a DNA test would disrupt the family trust.

"Brandon," I said, kneeling in front of him and taking his cold hands in mine. "Don't you see? Your mother knew a DNA test would be ordered if she made those accusations about Luke. She wanted a DNA test to be done. But she didn't want it to prove Luke wasn't yours. She wanted it to expose that you aren't Arthur's son!"

Brandon looked at me, confusion turning into horror as the realization dawned on him. "If I'm not Arthur's biological son... then under the strict terms of the Vance Family Trust, which was established by my grandfather, I am completely disqualified from inheriting the estate, the family mansion, and the controlling shares of the logistics company."

"Exactly," a sharp, cold voice interrupted from the doorway.

We turned to see Madeline standing there. She was dressed flawlessly in a tailored black suit, her eyes sharp and devoid of any grandmotherly warmth. Behind her stood two men in dark suits—her personal attorneys.

"You always were smarter than my son gave you credit for, Elena," Madeline said, stepping into the room with an icy smile. "Though I suppose I should stop calling him my son in the legal sense. Or rather, Arthur's son."

Brandon stood up, his stature towering over his mother, his voice shaking with pure betrayal. "You lied to me my entire life. You lied to Dad. Who is my father, Madeline?"

Madeline scoffed, waving her hand dismissively. "An old flame from before I married Arthur. A mistake. But Arthur was wealthy, and he was desperate for an heir. He never knew. I kept that secret for thirty-four years to ensure I lived a life of luxury. But then you went and married her," she spat, pointing a manicured finger at me. "An ordinary girl with no pedigree, no family name. And then you had that," she looked at Luke with disgust. "I tolerated you, Brandon, as long as you obeyed me. But when you defied me, when you chose them over my authority, you became a liability."

She signaled her attorney, who stepped forward and handed Brandon a new set of legal documents.

"Since the hospital’s genetic report has officially confirmed that you possess no biological lineage to Arthur Vance, you are hereby stripped of your position as Chief Executive Officer of Vance Logistics," Madeline announced coldly. "The family trust will automatically revert to my nephew, Charles. You have forty-eight hours to vacate the family property and return the keys to all company vehicles. You wanted to choose your little family over me, Brandon? Let's see how well you can provide for them with absolutely nothing."
