Six months later, the transformation of Mendes Corp and its enigmatic CEO was complete. The press had stopped speculating about corporate scandals and instead focused on the heartwarming transformation of Boston's most notorious billionaire into a dedicated, hands-on father.
To honor Lucia’s memory and cement his commitment to giving back, Gabriel officially launched the Lucia Martinez Foundation—a multi-million-dollar philanthropic initiative dedicated to supporting orphanages, underprivileged children, and educational access across the country. Sunshine House served as the flagship beneficiary of the foundation, receiving a complete modernization of its facilities, new art studios, computer labs, and fully funded college savings accounts for every child residing there.
On a bright Saturday morning, the grand reopening of Sunshine House was celebrated with a community festival. Colorful banners fluttered in the courtyard, music drifted from outdoor speakers, and tables were laden with food and treats.
Catherine Morrison stood by the entrance, watching the children run around the newly paved playground. Gabriel walked up beside her, holding a large box of cupcakes while Clara ran off to play hopscotch with her friends.
"You know, Gabriel," Catherine said warmly, folding her arms as she watched Clara laugh. "When you first walked through those doors six months ago, I thought you were just another corporate titan looking for a PR stunt."
"I was," Gabriel admitted honestly. "If it hadn't been for Clara stopping me in that courtyard, I probably would have signed a check, taken a photo, and gone right back to my empty office."
"Life has a funny way of correcting our course when we least expect it," Catherine replied, smiling. "Look at what you've built here. You didn't just save one child; you've given hope to hundreds."

"I didn't save her, Catherine," Gabriel said softly, turning to look at the director. "She saved me."
