Chapter 10 - The Bright New Dawn

A year later, the Starks estate hosted a celebration unlike any it had ever seen before.
The heavy gates were thrown wide open, welcome lights illuminating the long driveway. The grand ballroom, once reserved for tense, smoky meetings between underground bosses, was decorated with fresh white lilies, golden fairy lights, and vibrant spring flowers.
It was Lily and Rose’s seventh birthday party.
Children from their private school filled the gardens, playing games, eating cake, and running through the sprawling estate without a care in the world. There were no armed guards in sight—only discrete, high-tech security systems engineered by Mateo, ensuring complete safety without casting a shadow of fear over the children.
In the center of the hall, a giant birthday cake shaped like a fairy-tale castle stood proudly on a table.
Lily and Rose, dressed in matching pink party dresses, stood on chairs in front of the cake, surrounded by their school friends. Behind them stood Rory, dressed in a sharp tailor-made suit, and Veronica, wearing an elegant dark blue dress that complemented her warm eyes.
"Alright, girls," Rory announced loudly, his voice filled with pride as he put his hands on their shoulders. "Make a wish before you blow out the candles!"
Lily and Rose closed their eyes tightly, holding hands. They took a deep breath together and blew out all seven candles in one go, prompting a burst of applause and cheers from the guests.
"What did you wish for?" Veronica asked softly, leaning down to adjust Rose's tiara.
"We wished that Miss Veronica stays with us forever!" Rose declared loudly for everyone to hear.
The crowd chuckled warmly. Rory looked at Veronica, a soft, meaningful smile playing on his lips.
He took a small step closer to her, his hand gently resting near hers on the back of Rose's chair. "That's one wish that's already coming true," Rory said quietly, his voice meant only for her.
Veronica looked up at him, her heart skipping a beat as she read the deep, unwavering commitment in his eyes. She had come into this house as an invisible servant, carrying the burden of fear and poverty. Now, she was surrounded by a loving family, her own father and brother were safe, and she had found a place where she was truly valued and cherished.
"Forever sounds perfect," Veronica whispered back softly.
Later that evening, after the guests had departed and the estate had settled into a comfortable, peaceful quiet, Rory walked upstairs to the nursery.
The twins were fast asleep in their twin beds, tucked in under soft blankets, breathing steadily and peacefully. On the nightstand between their beds sat two small, simple wooden music boxes that played a gentle, soothing lullaby.
There were no buzzing noises. No hidden threats. No monsters in the dark. Only the quiet beauty of a home restored, a family protected, and a safe, bright future stretching out before them.

Rory kissed his daughters' foreheads, stepped out into the hallway, and gently closed the door. Veronica was waiting for him at the end of the hall, holding two glasses of wine.
He walked over to her, took a glass, and stepped out onto the balcony overlooking the calm, moonlit sea. They stood side by side in the cool night air, listening to the gentle rhythm of the ocean waves—a rhythm that brought no pain, no fear, only the promise of a peaceful tomorrow
