Chapter 8 - Reclaiming the Legacy

With the Caldwells utterly erased from the social and financial landscape, I turned my attention to rebuilding.

I liquidated the remnants of Caldwell Industries, absorbing their logistics network into Vance Holdings. Under my leadership as the absolute Chairperson, Vance Holdings experienced an unprecedented era of growth. I shifted the company’s focus toward philanthropic endeavors, funding state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) across the country, ensuring that no mother would ever have to go through the uncertainty I faced.

The Aspen estate was no longer a place of exile; it became our winter paradise. But our main home was now a beautiful, sun-drenched estate in Santa Barbara, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. No dark corridors, no frosted glass doors. Just open spaces, white roses, and the sound of the ocean waves.

Leo grew by leaps and bounds. By his first birthday, he was walking—or rather, running—everywhere. He had my dark hair and a laugh that could light up the darkest room.

On his birthday, we held a massive celebration at the Santa Barbara estate. The true elite of California attended, not out of obligation to an old name like the Caldwells, but out of immense respect for the Vance empire.

Uncle Arthur walked up to me on the terrace, watching Leo try to catch bubbles on the lawn.

"He looks just like your father, Olivia," Arthur said, clinking his champagne glass against mine. "The same determination in his eyes. He’s going to do great things."

"He already has, Uncle," I smiled, watching my son. "He saved me. He gave me a reason to fight."

"And what about you?" Arthur asked, looking at me gently. "The war is over, Olivia. You won everything. When are you going to start living for yourself?"

I looked out over the ocean, the golden hour painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. For the first time in a very long time, my chest didn't feel tight. The phantom pain of the C-section stitches had long faded, replaced by a deep, unshakeable strength.

"I am living, Arthur," I said softly. "This is just the beginning."
