Chapter 9 - A Ring of Gold and Steel

Two years later.
The church was small, stone-built, and situated on a quiet hill overlooking the sea—far away from the city lights and the dark history of the Vance family name.
There were no reporters, no politicians, and no mafia bosses present. Just Mrs. Gable, Marcus standing as best man, and a few close staff members who had become like family to us over the years.
I stood at the back of the aisle in a simple ivory lace gown that flowed around my ankles. In front of the altar stood Julian. He wore a crisp black suit, looking tall, powerful, and breathlessly handsome. Beside him stood three-year-old Noah and Nathan, wearing tiny matching tuxedos, holding a velvet cushion with our rings.
As the piano played a soft melody, I walked down the aisle. Every step felt like a victory over the cold, starving night in Room 214. Every step was a testament to how love could grow in the most unlikely, dangerous soil.
When I reached the altar, Julian took my hands in his. His hands were warm, steady, and entirely free of the shadows that had once plagued him.
"Elena," he said, his voice deep and echoing with emotion as we exchanged our vows. "I used to believe that power was built on fear, that strength was measured by how much you could control. Then you walked into my abandoned hotel with a paring knife, two starving babies, and a heart too brave for this world. You didn't just save those boys, Elena. You saved me. You gave a cold man a reason to live, a home to protect, and a family to love. I vow to honor you, protect you, and stand by your side for every day of my life."
Tears slid down my cheeks as I placed a simple gold band on his finger.
"Julian," I replied, my voice strong and clear. "You were the stranger who gave us formula when we had nothing left. You became our fortress, our sanctuary, and our heart. I give you my life, my love, and my forever."
"By the authority vested in me," the priest announced with a smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Julian didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms and kissed me with a deep, passionate intensity that made the rest of the world vanish. Noah and Nathan giggled loudly from the side, clapping their hands, breaking the solemnity of the moment with pure, unadulterated joy.
Julian broke the kiss, laughing softly as he looked down at our sons, then back at me.

"Mrs. Vance," he murmured against my lips. "How does it sound?"
"It sounds like home," I whispered back.
