Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Five years later.
The afternoon sun sparkled across the crystal-clear waters of our new home in San Diego, California—a bright, airy house filled with the sound of laughter, wind chimes, and little running feet.
"Mommy! Look what I drew!"
Five-year-old Ethan sprinted across the living room, holding up a colorful crayon drawing of a smiling family—a tall, fierce-looking superhero mom with a cape, a happy little boy, and a golden retriever puppy we had adopted the previous year.
I knelt down, wrapping my arms around Ethan and lifting him into the air as he giggled uncontrollably.
"Oh, bud, this is a masterpiece! You're a true artist," I beamed, kissing his cheek.
Life had blossomed into something more beautiful than I ever could have dreamed during those dark, terrifying hours five years ago. I had returned to my career in interior design, building a thriving firm that allowed me to provide an incredible, stable life for Ethan and me.
