Chapter 7 - Monday Morning at the Mansion

At 8:45 AM on Monday morning, a sleek black federal government SUV pulled up quietly outside the gates of the luxurious three-story mansion in Zapopan.

Valeria, Mateo, and I stepped out of the vehicle. Valeria wore a clean, simple white dress we had purchased the day before—her head held high, her posture straight and proud. Mateo held her hand tightly, looking up at the imposing iron gates with wide, curious eyes.

Two federal agents in dark suits and tactical vests stood waiting by the side gate. The lead agent, a tall, sharp-eyed man with a silver-shot mustache named Commander Morales, stepped forward and flashed his federal badge.

"Señor Gabriel? Señora Valeria?" he asked formally.

"I’m Gabriel. This is my wife, Valeria, and my son, Mateo," I replied, shaking his hand.

"We have our orders from the Federal Attorney General's Office," Commander Morales said, his voice clipped and professional. "The emergency asset freeze and property seizure warrant for Inversiones Del Mar has been officially authorized. We are ready to proceed."

"Let's go," I said.

The heavy iron side gate swung open, and the federal agents marched onto the manicured grounds. Instead of entering through the front, we walked around to the back patio—right past the spot where, just a few nights earlier, my wife had been forced to pick scraps of food out of the trash bins to feed our child.

Commander Morales signaled two officers to secure the sliding glass doors, while he strode up to the main kitchen entrance and knocked firmly three times.

A moment later, the door swung open.

Roberto stood there in a silk bathrobe, holding a steaming cup of espresso. He looked relaxed, smug, and utterly unprepared for the sight that greeted him. When his eyes landed on Commander Morales’s federal badge, followed immediately by me and Valeria standing in the sunlight behind him, the color drained instantly from his face. His coffee cup slipped from his fingers, shattering loudly against the tiled kitchen floor.

"What... what is the meaning of this?" Roberto stammered, stumbling backward into the kitchen as Commander Morales and three armed federal agents stepped past him into the house.

"Roberto Sánchez?" Commander Morales asked crisply, pulling a thick legal document from his tactical vest. "You are hereby served with a federal asset seizure warrant issued by the Attorney General’s Office pursuant to an ongoing international investigation into corporate fraud, money laundering, and the illegal usurpation of maritime remittance assets."

"This is a mistake!" Roberto shouted, his face turning a furious shade of crimson as he backed away toward the living room. "I have permits! I have local judges on speed dial! You can't just walk into my house—"

"It’s not your house, Roberto," a cool, level voice echoed through the kitchen.

I stepped across the threshold, my boots echoing sharply against the pristine white floor tiles. The smell of expensive coffee and roasted fruit filled the air—the exact same luxurious atmosphere he had enjoyed while starving my family just yards away.

Roberto turned and glared at me, his eyes wide with a mixture of blind panic and murderous rage. "You! You miserable, backstabbing son of a—you think you can call your little foreign friends and steal what I built? I worked for this! I managed the accounts!"

"You stole," I corrected him, stepping closer until I towered over him. "You stole my money. You stole my son’s childhood. You stole my wife’s dignity. And today, the bill finally came due."

From the front hallway, the sound of startled voices rose as Sofia—Roberto's wife—rushed into the room wrapped in a designer robe, her face caked in morning cream and absolute shock.

"Roberto! What is happening? Who are these men?" she shrieked, staring at the federal agents who were already methodically sealing doors, inventorying electronics, and slapping official government seizure stickers across the expensive artwork on the walls.

"Pack your bags, Sofia," I said coldly, looking her dead in the eye. "You have twenty minutes to gather your personal belongings and get out of my house."
