Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm in the Boardroom

While peace settled over Lena’s home, turmoil raged in the upper echelons of the city’s real estate syndicate.
In a glass-walled conference room overlooking the financial district, Marcus Halloway paced back and forth, slamming his fist onto a glass table. His multi-million-dollar empire was crumbling around him. The two million dollars wired to Maya Moroz’s trust fund had drained his liquid capital, and Arthur Vale’s call-in of commercial loans had triggered a domino effect among his investors.
“He can’t do this!” Halloway roared, pointing a trembling finger at his legal counsel, Richard Vance—a distant cousin of the disgraced branch manager, Sarah Vance.
Richard adjusted his glasses, his face pale. “Marcus, you don't understand. Arthur Vale doesn't just play the game; he built the board. When he revoked your commercial credit lines, every bank in the city followed suit. We are facing insolvency within forty-eight hours unless we find a way to counter-sue or leverage a settlement.”
“Counter-sue? On what grounds?” Halloway sneered. “We forged documents, we used an internal bank loop, and we got caught by the literal owner of the institution! Sarah is already facing federal wire fraud charges. If we push back, Vale will bury us under a mountain of securities fraud indictments.”

“There has to be a vulnerability,” Richard muttered, scanning financial records. “Vale Fidelity Bank controls 40% of the city’s commercial development funds. If we can prove that his recent asset reallocations violate anti-monopoly clauses, we might force him to the negotiating table.”
“Do it,” Halloway hissed, his eyes narrowing with bitter desperation. “Find something. Anything. I want Vale brought to his knees.”
