Chapter 2 - The New Horizon

The morning sun cast a golden glow across the polished hardwood floors of Lena Moroz’s newly restored apartment. For the first time in over a year, Lena woke up without the crushing weight of panic sitting heavy on her chest. She stood in the kitchen, the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling the small space—a luxury she hadn't allowed herself to enjoy in months.

In the next room, six-year-old Maya was laughing, playing tag with her newly repaired stuffed rabbit. The missing button eye had been professionally replaced by a tailor Arthur’s driver had sent over the previous afternoon. To Maya, the rabbit wasn't just a toy anymore; it was a symbol of magic.

Lena walked over to the window, parting the clean white curtains to look down at the quiet street below. A sleek, black town car was idling at the curb. Thomas, Arthur Vale’s driver, stepped out, opened the trunk, and handed a stack of official mail and packages to the building superintendent before driving away.

There was no note, but Lena knew it was from Arthur. He was watching over them, making sure their transition back to normalcy was completely seamless.

Later that morning, the doorbell rang. Lena opened it to find a courier holding a heavy leather-bound document folder embossed with gold lettering.

“Delivery for Ms. Lena Moroz,” the courier said politely.

Lena signed for it and carried it to the kitchen table. Inside was the unconditional, completely unencumbered deed to the apartment building itself. Arthur hadn't just returned her unit; through a swift corporate restructuring of Halloway’s seized assets, he had transferred ownership of the entire building into a cooperative trust managed by Lena and her fellow working-class neighbors.

No landlord could ever evict them again. They were safe.
