Chapter 8 - Healing the Butterflies

Lily and I spent that summer learning what it meant to be truly free. We hiked the trails, we adopted a golden retriever named Scout, and we learned that silence didn't have to be a void—it could be a space to grow.

I started a blog, anonymously at first, about the transition from "the wife" to "the person." The response was overwhelming. Thousands of women wrote to me, sharing their own stories of feeling like furniture, feeling invisible.

I realized that my departure wasn't just a divorce; it was a movement. I wasn't just "the wife" anymore; I was a voice.

I found a new rhythm. I stopped over-organizing. I let the laundry sit for an extra day. I let Lily choose the dinner menu, even if it was just cereal and toast. The house was less perfect, but it was warmer, more human, more alive.
