Chapter 6 - The Legal Counter-Offensive

By two o'clock in the afternoon, the formal legal siege was fully underway.

Marcus had deployed a three-pronged legal strategy designed to dismantle Ryan and Vivian’s parasitic lifestyle permanently, leaving them with no legal loopholes to exploit.

First was the immediate execution of the restraining order. Armed with medical reports, photographs of Margaret’s bruises, and sworn affidavits from the attending physician who had secretly examined her during a routine clinic visit two weeks prior, local judges signed off on emergency restraining orders within hours. Ryan and Vivian were legally barred from coming within five hundred yards of The Grandview Estate, myself, my mother, or my children.

Second was the financial audit disclosure. Since Ryan had spent three years living off corporate-backed expense accounts while claiming unemployment status for tax purposes, Marcus had flagged his tax filings for potential fraud.

"They're completely cornered," Marcus said, calling me via secure video link from his downtown office later that afternoon. "Ryan tried to retain three different local attorneys, but none of them would take his case without a twenty-thousand-dollar retainer up front—money he clearly doesn't have."

"What about Vivian?" I asked, sipping a cup of herbal tea while watching Oliver and Emma build a tower out of magnetic blocks on the rug.

"Vivian tried to check herself into a local clinic, claiming psychological distress caused by 'malicious abandonment,'" Marcus chuckled darkly. "The clinic checked her insurance, found it was cancelled due to non-payment, and politely asked her to settle her bill in cash. She's currently sitting at a local diner, trying to figure out how to pay for a grilled cheese sandwich with expired discount coupons."

I couldn't help but smile. It was poetic justice of the highest order. For years, Vivian had lorded over everyone around her, treating service workers like dirt and treating my mother like an indentured servant. Now, she was experiencing the very vulnerability she had so cruelly inflicted on others.

"Make sure the eviction notice is enforced strictly at the forty-eight-hour mark," I instructed Marcus. "If they leave a single piece of trash behind, have the cleanup crew bill it directly to their last known credit file."

"Consider it done, Elena. I'll handle the court filings for custody tomorrow morning. Given Ryan's lack of domicile and documented domestic violence association in his household, sole custody will be a formality."
