Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

The ballroom erupted into chaos. Derek staggered backward on the stage, clutching his chest as if he were seeing a ghost. "You... you're dead! You died in the freezer!" he shrieked, completely incriminating himself before hundreds of witnesses and rolling media cameras.
"I survived, Derek," Grace’s voice rang out, clear, cold, and powerful. "And so did your children."

The federal agents stepped onto the stage, slapping heavy iron handcuffs onto Derek's wrists. Julian stepped forward, tossing a thick folder of financial crimes, attempted murder charges, and asset seizures onto the podium. "Your company is gone, Bennett. Your freedom is gone. You are officially ruined," Julian whispered in a voice that carried across the silent room.
As Derek was dragged away screaming, begging Grace for mercy, she didn't shed a single tear. She simply turned her back on him, leaving him to the darkness he had tried to consign her to.
