Chapter 5 - The Sanctuary of the Enemy

Grace awoke three days later in a warm, sunlit bedroom that smelled of lavender and clean linen. She gasped, sit-up in terror, her hands instantly flying to her belly.

"They are safe, Grace," a calm, deep voice spoke from the corner.

Julian Vance sat in an armchair, a cup of coffee in hand. He gestured to two state-of-the-art medical incubators parked near the bed. Grace burst into tears as she saw Emma and Noah, hooked up to monitors but breathing steadily, their skin a healthy, warm pink.

Julian explained the situation. He had brought her to his private, highly secured estate. Legally, Grace and the babies were still considered "missing" or presumed dead by the outside world. Derek had already filed the insurance claim for her accidental death, pretending to be a grieving widower while celebrating with his creditors.

"He thinks he won," Julian said, a dangerous glint in his dark eyes. "He thinks the freezer took everything from him that could ruin him. He doesn't know you're alive. And he doesn't know that I am going to help you burn his world to the ground."
