Chapter 7 - The Tables Turn

With the undeniable proof broadcasted live to millions across the globe, the federal authorities wasted no time. Within hours, squads of federal agents swarmed Marcus’s corporate headquarters, seizing servers, freezing accounts, and placing his top associates under immediate arrest. Warrants were issued nationwide, and by evening, news broadcasts showed Marcus himself being escorted out of his penthouse in handcuffs, his head bowed in utter defeat.
Back at the estate, Rebecca sat quietly in the sunlit living room, watching the television screen in disbelief. She watched as the man who had terrorized her existence, stolen her family’s legacy, and forced her into years of running was finally led away to face justice.
The immense, suffocating weight that had rested squarely on her shoulders for five long years—a weight that had forced her to sleep in cars, on floors, and in freezing cabins—finally, completely lifted. She closed her eyes, a single tear of pure relief tracing down her cheek.
She felt a gentle warmth beside her and looked up to see James standing in the doorway, a weary yet deeply genuine smile gracing his features.
"It's over, Rebecca," James said softly, walking over and kneeling beside her chair. "You're finally free."
Rebecca looked toward the corner of the room, where Chloe and Clare were happily playing with a set of intricately carved wooden building blocks James had spent his weekend making for them.
