Chapter 6 - Breaking the Silence

The camera flashes illuminated the cavernous press room like a continuous bolt of lightning, casting harsh shadows across the rows of microphones and eager reporters shouting overlapping questions.
James Carter walked calmly to the center podium, his heart steady for the first time in months. He wore no tie, his expression devoid of the corporate polish he usually wore like armor. As he stepped up to the microphone, the deafening roar of the press corps slowly dissolved into a breathless hush.
"Good morning," James began, his voice deep, clear, and carrying effortlessly across the hall. "For the past week, tabloids and corporate adversaries have painted a picture of scandal, kidnapping, and deception. Every single word of it is a calculated lie designed to protect a monster."
Gasps rippled through the front rows. Camera shutters clicked frantically.
James didn't talk about stocks, dividends, or corporate growth. Instead, he spoke of a freezing night in a mountain cabin. He described a mother holding her children against the biting cold, terrified of a world that had repeatedly failed them. Then, with a single motion, he connected his encrypted flash drive to the podium’s master display.
On the massive screens behind him, documents, financial audits, offshore accounts, and recorded audio transcripts began scrolling in real-time—proof of Marcus’s decades-long financial corruption, illegal coercion, and systematic destruction of innocent lives, including Rebecca's family.

"This is the man who claims moral authority," James said, his eyes locking onto the live broadcast camera lens. "This is the man who tried to silence a mother for exposing his crimes. And today, the game is over."
Miles away, in his luxurious penthouse suite, Marcus watched the screens shatter his entire existence into dust. The hunter had instantly become the hunted.
