Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm

The atmosphere inside the dive bar plummeted to absolute zero.
Two men walked through the door. The first was Lucas Bennett. He was dressed in a sharp black jacket, his eyes locked onto Ryan with the laser-focused intensity of a predator. Behind him stood Ethan Bennett, towering, dressed in a tailored three-piece suit that looked absurdly out of place in the grime of the bar, yet his commanding presence made the entire room feel insignificant.
The few patrons in the bar shrank back into their booths. The bartender immediately reached for the phone under the counter, but Lucas didn't even look at him as he raised a small electronic device. "Don't bother, pal. Cell service and landlines in a hundred-yard radius are jammed. Just take a break."
Ryan stood up, his instincts screaming at him to run, but his pride forcing him to stand his ground. "Hey! You can't just come in here—"
Before Ryan could finish his sentence, Lucas closed the distance. He didn't use a weapon. He used his fist, a brutal, lightning-fast right hook that caught Ryan squarely on the jaw. Ryan crashed backward, shattering a wooden table and collapsing into a heap of splinters and spilled alcohol.
Vanessa screamed, scrambling away into the corner. "You're crazy! I'm calling the cops!"
Ethan stepped forward, his polished shoes crunching on the glass. He looked down at Vanessa, his expression filled with a disgust so profound it made her choke on her breath. "Miss Lopez, I presume? The woman who faked anonymous tips to my brother-in-law because she wanted a cut of an auto shop that is now worth zero dollars?"
Vanessa’s eyes widened in sheer terror. "I... I don't know what you're talking about."
Lucas pulled out his tablet, tapping the screen. Vanessa’s phone, sitting on the bar counter, suddenly lit up, downloading and displaying every deleted text message, every call log between her and a local drug dealer she owed money to, and the exact coordinates of her location over the past month.
"We know everything, Vanessa," Lucas said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "We know about your debts. We know you targeted Ryan because he was weak and easily manipulated. And we know you lied about Sophia. If you so much as breathe the air in the state of California by tomorrow morning, I will personally hand this tablet to the federal prosecutors who have been looking for your boyfriend."
Vanessa didn't say another word. She grabbed her purse, bolted past Ethan, and ran out into the night, abandoning Ryan without a single backward glance.
Ryan groaned on the floor, clutching his bleeding jaw. He looked up at the two brothers, terror finally overtaking his rage. "You... you can't do this. I'll sue you. I'll tell the police."
Ethan knelt beside him, his face inches from Ryan's. The sheer aura of power radiating from the billionaire made Ryan want to disappear into the floorboards.
"The police are currently reviewing the security footage Lucas pulled from your neighbor's house, Ryan," Ethan whispered. "They are also reviewing your medical records, your history of erratic behavior, and the physical evidence on the wooden stick you used on my sister. You aren't going to sue anyone. You are going to watch your life disintegrate piece by piece."

Ethan stood up, wiping his hands with a linen handkerchief. "Lucas, let's go. We have a sister to take care of. Matthew will handle the rest of the paperwork."
As they walked out, Lucas paused, looking back at Ryan. "This was just the introduction, Ryan. The real lesson begins tomorrow."
