Chapter 8 - Building A Home

Six months later, the loud hum of Manhattan was replaced by the rustling leaves and sweet scent of pine in upstate New York.

Harrison had stepped down as active CEO of Blackwell Industries, transitioning to Chairman of the Board so he could spend his days where he truly belonged. He had bought a sprawling, five-hundred-acre estate bordering a serene lake, far away from the toxic concrete jungle of his past.

On a warm spring afternoon, Harrison stood on the expansive wooden porch of their new home.

In the distance, Tyler—now fully recovered and running with a slight, triumphant bounce—was chasing a Golden Retriever puppy across the green lawn. Arya sat at an outdoor wooden table with Clare, painting watercolors of the wildflowers blooming along the lake shore.

"Daddy! Look!" Arya called out, holding up a bright paper canvas.

Harrison walked down the porch steps and knelt beside her table. The painting showed four figures standing under a bright yellow sun, holding hands in front of a big wooden house.

"It's us," Arya said proudly, pointing her paintbrush at the largest figure. "And that's you. I drew you without a suit because Mama says suits are for boardrooms, not for tag."

Harrison laughed, a genuine, deep sound that felt entirely natural now. "Mama is absolutely right."

Clare smiled at him from across the table, her blue eyes shining with happiness. Her hand rested gently on her stomach, where a subtle bump was just beginning to show—their third child, conceived in love and peace, far away from corporate warfare.

"Mr. Blackwell," James’s voice came quietly from the side of the house. He was no longer just a head of security; he was the head of estate operations and a close family friend.

"Yes, James?" Harrison asked, standing up.

"The board called from Manhattan," James said with a small smile. "They want to know if you'll be attending the annual shareholder summit next month."

Harrison looked back at Arya, who was dipping her brush into bright green paint, and at Tyler, who came running over to tackle his legs with a roar of toddler laughter. Harrison lifted Tyler into his arms and wrapped his other arm around Clare’s waist.

"Tell them I’m busy," Harrison replied with a grin. "I have far more important business to take care of."
