Chapter 9 - The Rain Song

Three years later.

Rain fell softly against the large glass windows of the lakeside home, creating a cozy, rhythmic melody that echoed throughout the warm house. Inside, a fire crackled merrily in the stone fireplace.

Harrison sat in a large leather armchair with his three-year-old daughter, Lily, sleeping peacefully against his chest. Across the room, eight-year-old Tyler was engrossed in a game of chess with James, while ten-year-old Arya was fine-tuning her violin near the fire.

Clare walked over, placing two cups of hot tea on the side table, and sat on the arm of Harrison's chair, resting her head on his shoulder.

"She looks just like Arya did at that age," Clare whispered, stroking small Lily's soft blond curls.

"She has your patience, thank goodness," Harrison teased softly, kissing Clare’s forehead.

Arya lifted her violin bow and drew it smoothly across the strings. A sweet, familiar melody filled the warm room—the same rain song she had sung into the phone three years ago when her brother was trapped in the woods. But this time, there were no tears, no fear, and no cold rain soaking through her clothes.

Tyler stopped his chess move and began humming along, his small voice blending harmoniously with the music. Clare joined in, her soft soprano filling the air with warmth.

Harrison closed his eyes, listening to the symphony of his family.

He remembered the icy boardroom on the forty-seventh floor of Blackwell Industries. He remembered the fifty-million-dollar contract that he thought defined his worth. He realized now how close he had come to trading gold for dust. A single wrong number had broken through his armor and handed him his true purpose.

When Arya finished the song, she turned to Harrison with a radiant smile. "How was that, Daddy?"

"It was perfect, sweetheart," Harrison said, his voice filled with deep pride. "The best song I’ve ever heard."
