Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

The gala ended past midnight, the ballroom slowly emptying as the last guests departed with warm farewells and renewed commitments to our cause.
By the time we returned home, the house was quiet and peaceful. The moonlight streamed through the tall living room windows, casting gentle shadows across the polished hardwood floors.
I carried a sleeping Rosie upstairs, gently tucking her beneath her soft pink comforter. Her breathing was deep, even, and perfectly healthy—the sound of pure life. I kissed her forehead, brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek, and whispered, “Sweet dreams, my little princess.”
I walked down the hallway to my study—a bright, airy room lined with medical journals, family photographs, and my father’s old leather-bound journals.
Sitting at the large mahogany desk, I opened my laptop. On the screen was a notification from the foundation board: our new pediatric wing was officially breaking ground next month, bringing advanced care to hundreds of families who otherwise would have gone without.
I leaned back in my chair, looking out the window at the quiet, starlit night sky.
The nightmare with Blake and Marissa felt like a lifetime ago—a distant storm that had tested the foundation of my world, only to prove that nothing could shake what I was truly made of. I had lost a marriage built on lies, but I had reclaimed my name, my career, my father’s legacy, and most importantly, my daughter’s future.

I smiled into the quiet room, feeling a profound, unshakeable sense of peace settle deep within my soul.
We had won. We were safe. And our happily ever after was just beginning.
