Chapter 7 - The Tables Turn

The courtroom erupted into a flurry of whispered conversations. Michael whipped his head around to stare at his mother, the color completely draining from his face. "Mom? What is he talking about? What trust fund?"
Sarah’s composure completely shattered. She stammered, pointing a shaking finger at my father. "Lies! Fabricated documents! They are trying to ruin our family!"
"The state prosecutor's office has already been furnished with copies, Mrs. Harrison," the judge said calmly, reviewing the financial summary provided by my father. "Given the severity of the financial fraud, the active witness tampering, and the psychological abuse documented today, my ruling is immediate."
The judge looked directly at me, then at Michael.

"Temporary sole legal and physical custody of the minor child is granted exclusively to the mother, Emily Harrison. The father is granted supervised visitation only upon completion of psychological evaluation. Furthermore, an immediate bench warrant and asset freeze is issued for Sarah Harrison pending criminal trial for grand larceny."
As the bailiff stepped toward Sarah, her knees buckled. Michael buried his face in his hands, finally realizing the full, catastrophic cost of choosing his mother over his family.
