Chapter 4 - The Gathering StormWe moved into my parents' small suburban house. For the next three weeks, Michael and Sarah waged a brutal legal war. They submitted manipulated voice notes, cherry-picked pediatrician visits, and false affidavits claiming I had anger management issues.

Michael stopped answering my calls entirely, communicating only through formal legal letters demanding supervised visitation with Matthew.

My father, who had spent thirty years as a senior forensic accountant before retiring, sat me down at the kitchen table one rainy Tuesday night with three thick binders.

"People like Sarah leave paper trails," he said, adjusting his glasses. "They are arrogant. They think money and social standing make them untouchable."

"Dad, what are you talking about?" I asked, exhausted from crying.

"Sarah didn't just inherit her wealth when your husband's father passed away," my father smiled grimly. "She managed the estate. And she made a series of very interesting financial maneuvers involving trust funds that were legally designated for Michael—and, more importantly, for Matthew's future education."

He slid a bank statement across the table. Sarah had systematically drained over two hundred thousand dollars from a protected junior trust fund, funneling it into offshore accounts under her own name.
