Chapter 10 - A True Family Christmas

One year after the infamous Christmas dinner, our home was filled with light, laughter, and the rich scent of freshly baked pine-nut cookies and spiced cider.
Outside, soft white snow blanketed the yard, glittering under the warm glow of the porch lights. Inside, the Christmas tree sparkled with colorful lights and hand-painted ornaments that Chloe had crafted throughout the year.
Aunt Denise, Cousin Mark, and his young family joined us for dinner. The atmosphere was light, filled with warm conversation, playful banter, and genuine affection. There was no walking on eggshells, no passive-aggressive remarks, and no hidden agendas.
When it came time for dessert, Andrew stood up with his champagne glass in hand. The room quieted down, and everyone looked toward him with smiles.
He looked around the table at Denise, Mark, me, and finally rested his eyes on Chloe, who was wearing a beautiful royal blue dress and beaming with confidence.
"Last year, this holiday was painful," Andrew began, his voice clear and filled with love. "But it taught us what truly matters. It taught us that love isn't something you have to earn or buy. It's something you give freely to the people who enrich your life."
He raised his glass high.
"To real family—the ones who lift us up, protect us, and bring light into our world. And especially to my daughter, Chloe, who reminds us every day what true strength and sweetness look like. I am proud of you, kiddo. Proud of everything you are."
Everyone at the table raised their glasses, echoed the toast with loud cheers, and clinked their glasses together in warm celebration.
Chloe looked up at her father, her eyes shining not with tears of hurt, but with pure joy and belonging. She reached over, gave her dad a huge, tight hug, and whispered, "Merry Christmas, Daddy."

"Merry Christmas, my bright little thing," Andrew replied, holding her close.
The house was full of warmth, security, and love—a complete, victorious, and truly happy ending.
