Chapter 5 - Unmasking the Shadow

The aftermath was immediate and brutal. By nightfall, the police had been called—not for Daniel’s strike, which was quickly understood as the dramatic exposure of a massive fraud, but to investigate the criminal network Madison had entangled herself with.

Detectives questioned Madison in my parents' living room. As the interrogation progressed, an even darker reality emerged. Madison hadn't acted entirely alone.

She had been manipulated by an ex-fiancé, Julian, a suave conman who had convinced her that faking the pregnancy and claiming the family trust was the only way to pay off his massive gambling debts. Julian had procured the high-grade silicone belly, forged the ultrasound scans, and arranged the illegal adoption deal.

When Madison realized she was trapped in Julian’s scheme, she couldn't come clean without facing total ruin, so she pushed deeper into the delusion.
