Chapter 9 - Handcuffs and Justice

Diana’s face instantly lost all color. The gavel slipped from her trembling hand, clattering loudly against the wooden podium.
"What... what is the meaning of this?" Diana stammered, her voice cracking for the first time. "This is a private HOA meeting! You have no jurisdiction here—"
Agent Miller stepped briskly down the center aisle, holding up an official document embossed with federal seals.
"Diana Harrington, Richard Harrington, and Magistrate Vance," Agent Miller announced loudly, his voice echoing off the walls. "You are hereby placed under federal arrest for wire fraud, money laundering, extortion, racketeering, and mail fraud under RICO statutes."
Chaos erupted in the room. Residents began murmuring, standing up from their chairs to get a better view.
Richard Harrington stood up, his face turning beet red. "This is a complete outrage! We demand to see a warrant! You can't touch us—"
"Quiet, Richard," Magistrate Vance hissed, standing up quickly and trying to slip toward the side exit.
Two federal agents immediately cut off the judge’s path, their hands resting firmly on their holstered sidearms.
"Not so fast, Judge," I said, stepping forward into the center aisle, my eyes locked on the man who had abused his judicial robe to protect criminals. "You forgot that corruption always leaves a paper trail. And in this county, justice doesn't take bribes."
Agent Miller walked right up to the stage, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his tactical vest. He slapped them onto Diana’s wrists with a sharp, definitive click.
"Diana Harrington," Agent Miller said coldly. "In addition to your federal charges, local warrants have just been issued by the state prosecutor for felony child endangerment and physical abuse of a minor."

Diana let out a sharp, pathetic gasp as the cuffs bit into her wrists. She looked around the room frantically, expecting her neighbors to rush to her defense. But every single face in that room stared back at her with cold, unyielding silence and profound disgust. Even her closest cronies on the board quickly looked away, refusing to make eye contact.
As federal agents cuffed Richard and Magistrate Vance as well, leading them down the center aisle in a neat, humiliating line of shame, the entire community hall erupted into spontaneous, thunderous applause. Neighbors stood up, clapping and cheering not just for the end of a tyrannical reign, but for the restoration of their home, their dignity, and their peace.
