Chapter 7 - The Patriarch's Ultimatum

The heavy oak door of room 214 pushed open wider, and Arthur Cole stepped into the room.
At seventy years old, Arthur was a living monument to the ruthless generation of industrialists who had built the city's financial foundations. Silver-haired, impeccably tailored in a bespoke charcoal suit, and leaning slightly on a gold-handled cane, he radiated an aura of absolute, calcified dominance. His grey-blue eyes — the exact same shade as Adrian’s and the triplets' — swept over the sterile hospital room with undisguised disdain before landing squarely on Adrian.
"So," Arthur said, his voice a deep, gravelly baritone that commanded obedience without raising a volume. "The great Adrian Cole, abandoning a billion-dollar merger to play bedside nurse to a woman who ran out on you seven years ago. Have you completely lost your mind?"
Adrian’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle ticked in his cheek. He stepped forward, putting himself physically between his father and Sienna’s bed. "Get out, Arthur. This isn't your domain."
Arthur let out a dry, cold laugh, tapping his cane softly against the linoleum. "My domain is the Cole empire, Adrian. An empire that you are currently tanking because of some sentimental ghost from your past. And worse... I hear rumors. Wild, absurd rumors from your staff about three children hiding in your penthouse."
Sienna shifted weakly on the bed, her hand weakly clutching the sheets. Adrian shot a quick, reassuring glance back at her before turning his full, lethal fury back onto his father.
"They aren't rumors," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, icy whisper. "They are my daughters. Your granddaughters."
Arthur’s expression didn't soften by a fraction. Instead, a look of profound disgust crossed his weathered features. "Illegitimate children. Spawned by an undisciplined art student who couldn't handle the pressure of our world. Do you have any idea what the board will say? What the press will do when they find out the sole heir to the Cole conglomerate has bastard children running around?"
"I don't give a damn about the board, and I care even less about the press," Adrian snapped, stepping closer to his father until they were nearly chest-to-chest. "My personal life is not your business, Arthur. And if you ever speak of my daughters or Sienna like that again, I will strip you of every remaining voting share you have in Cole Enterprises and lock you out of the tower permanently."
Silence descended on the room, heavy and suffocating. The heart monitor beeped rhythmically in the background.
Arthur stared at his son, searching his eyes for any sign of hesitation, any flicker of the obedient boy he had raised with an iron fist. But he found nothing. He found only the cold, unyielding resolve of a man who had finally found something worth destroying the world for.
A slow, chilling smile touched Arthur’s thin lips.
"You think you can fight me, Adrian? You think you can raise three children alone while running an empire?" Arthur shook his head, turning slowly toward the door. "You're a fool. Without a mother, those girls are liabilities. And I will make sure the family trusts are never opened to them. Good luck playing house, son. You're going to need it."
With a final, contemptuous tap of his cane, Arthur turned and walked out of the room, the door clicking shut behind him with finality.
Adrian stood frozen, his fists clenched so tightly his fingernails dug into his palms. But before he could turn back to Sienna, a weak, trembling hand reached out and touched his sleeve.

"Adrian," Sienna whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "He's right... about the world. My world... our girls... they don't belong in that cold, brutal cage."
Adrian dropped to his knees beside the bed, burying his face in her frail hands. "They belong with us, Sienna. With us. I'm going to fight him. I'm going to fight the whole damn world."
