Chapter 9 - The Promise Renewed

The doors to the grand ballroom opened, and the crowd fell silent as Ethan Vance stepped onto the stage. The regional directors and executives, who had spent the last hour whispering frantically about the sudden mass firings at the front desk, held their breath.
Ethan stood behind the podium. He didn't look like a corporate tyrant. He looked like a man who had rediscovered his purpose.
"Good evening, everyone," Ethan’s voice echoed powerfully through the speakers. "Tonight was supposed to be a celebration of numbers, growth, and market expansion. But over the last twenty-four hours, I was reminded that numbers are a lagging indicator of a company’s soul."
He told them the story. He didn't name names, but he described exactly what happened to him and Lily the night before. He described the coldness, the prejudice, and the fear that had crept into the Grand Regent.
"We are in the business of hospitality," Ethan said, his gaze sweeping across the room, locking eyes with every regional director. "Hospitality is not a luxury product. It is a human values system. From this day forward, any manager who prioritizes profit over human dignity will be removed. Any employee who judges a guest by their clothing, their skin color, or their background will be terminated immediately."
The room was completely still. Many executives looked down, feeling the weight of his words.
"But tonight is also a night of renewal," Ethan continued, a bright smile appearing on his face. "I want to introduce you to the new Director of Guest Relations, Lupita Ramos. She reminded me of the promise this company was built on. And to honor that promise, Vance Hospitality will be launching a nationwide scholarship and healthcare fund for all our frontline operational staff—our housekeepers, our valets, our kitchen workers. Because they are the true foundation of our success."
The ballroom erupted into thunderous applause. The relief and inspiration in the room were palpable. Ethan stepped down from the stage, where Arthur met him with a warm smile, holding two glasses of sparkling apple cider—one for Ethan, and one for Lily.

"To the future," Arthur said, clinking his glass against Ethan’s.
"To the future," Ethan agreed.
