Chapter 9 - The Celebration of Hearts

Six months later, the Moretti estate hosted the most magnificent wedding Chicago had seen in a generation.

It was not a gathering of mobsters or shady syndicate bosses. The guest list was filled with charity leaders, local community figures, estate staff, and true friends. The grand lawn was decorated with thousands of white roses, fairy lights twinkling in the evening breeze, and a grand white marquee overlooking the lake.

Sophia walked down the aisle in an ethereal dress of lace and silk, holding a bouquet of white peonies. She didn't walk alone; holding her left hand was Emma, dressed in a matching miniature gown, carrying a small basket of rose petals.

Standing at the altar, waiting for them under an arch of white flowers, was Aleandro. He looked breathtakingly handsome in a black tuxedo, his eyes shining with an emotion he no longer tried to hide.

Beside Aleandro, standing proudly as his best man, was Bruno. The giant hound wore a black silk bow tie attached to his collar, sitting perfectly still, watching his little human walk toward them.

The ceremony was gentle and profound.

"Do you, Aleandro Moretti, take Sophia Carter to be your wedded wife, to love, honor, and protect her, in light and in shadow, for as long as you both shall live?"

Aleandro looked into Sophia’s tear-filled eyes, his voice steady and full of devotion. "I do."

"And do you, Sophia Carter, take Aleandro Moretti to be your wedded husband, to love, cherish, and walk beside him, through every season of life?"

"I do," Sophia said softly, her hand trembling with joy inside his.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Aleandro pulled Sophia into his arms, kissing her deeply as the guests erupted into applause. Emma cheered, clapping her tiny hands, while Bruno let out his signature deep bark, causing the entire crowd to laugh and cheer louder.

As night fell, the reception turned into a celebration of warmth and music. Aleandro danced with his new wife under the glowing canopy of the marquee, holding her close as the soft jazz music drifted toward the lake.

Later in the evening, Aleandro sat on the stone steps of the patio, holding a sleeping Emma in his arms, wrapped in his tuxedo jacket. Sophia sat beside him, resting her head against his shoulder.

At their feet, Bruno lay contentedly, his head resting on Sophia’s slippers, his tail giving a gentle thud every time someone walked by.

"Look at them," Sophia whispered, pointing toward the estate, where lights shone warmly from every window. "It used to be so dark here."

Aleandro kissed the top of her head. "The dark is gone, my love. It was gone the moment a brave little girl walked out into the snow with a square of white cloth."
