Chapter 7 - The Dawn of Change

The purge that followed was absolute. Within forty-eight hours, the Falcone family ceased to exist in Chicago. Aleandro did not just defeat his rivals; he dismantled their entire network, securing total, unchallenged control over the region.
But inside the Moretti estate, the atmosphere underwent a complete transformation.
The dark, cold fortress that had once struck terror into the hearts of the city was filled with light. The heavy drapes were pulled back, allowing the winter sunlight to flood the marble halls. The silent, terrified staff were replaced with well-paid, loyal personnel who treated Sophia not as a maid, but as the lady of the house.
Two weeks after the attack, Aleandro held a formal press conference in the grand hall—a rare event that stunned the political and business circles of Illinois.
Standing behind a podium, dressed in an immaculate dark suit, Aleandro looked out at the dozens of reporters and cameras.
"For many years, this estate and my name have been associated with power, shadow, and fear," Aleandro stated, his voice ringing clear and authoritative through the microphones. "Today, I am announcing my complete retirement from all syndicate operations. The Moretti Enterprises will transition fully into legitimate commercial shipping and real estate development, managed by a civilian board of directors."
Gasps filled the room. The reporters began shouting questions, but Aleandro held up a single hand, demanding silence.
"Furthermore," Aleandro continued, his eyes shifting toward the side entrance of the hall, "I am announcing the creation of the Emma Carter Foundation—a twenty-million-dollar fund dedicated to providing shelter, education, and safety for single mothers and children in need across the city."
In the doorway, Sophia stood wearing a simple, elegant dark green dress. She held Emma’s small hand. Beside them, Bruno sat proudly, wearing a brand-new leather collar studded with silver—a gift from the city's finest leather craftsman.
Aleandro walked away from the podium, ignoring the shouting journalists. He walked straight toward Sophia, taking her hand in front of every camera in Chicago, kissing the back of her knuckles gently.
"Are you sure about this?" Sophia asked softly, looking up into his eyes. "Giving up your empire?"
"I am not giving up an empire, Sophia," Aleandro whispered, his thumb lightly stroking her cheek. "I am building a home. I spent twenty years ruling the dark. I want to spend the rest of my life in the light with you."

Emma looked up, tugging on Aleandro’s trousers. "Mister? Can we go give Bruno his soup now?"
Aleandro laughed—a warm, bright sound that echoed off the high ceilings—and picked Emma up, placing her safely on his broad shoulder. "Yes, little princess. We can give Bruno whatever he wants."
