Chapter 8 - A New Home, A New Life

Six months later, the Boston underworld was quieter than it had been in a century. The Reichi family completely controlled the city, but under Matteo's new leadership, the nature of the business shifted. The drug lines were completely dismantled, replaced by legitimate real estate holdings, shipping commerce, and union management. Matteo used his absolute power to clean the streets, becoming a shadow protector of the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.
But his favorite project was located in the hills of Milton, right next to his own estate.
Matteo stood on the porch of a beautifully renovated, Victorian-style house. The lawn was perfect, the porch light was bright, and the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies drifted through the open front door.
"Matt! You're late for dinner!" Emma shouted, running out of the house. She was wearing a new school uniform, her hair neatly braided, looking healthy, vibrant, and completely free of the shadows that had once haunted her.
"I had a meeting, kiddo," Matteo said, scooping her up into a hug. He didn't hesitate anymore; holding her had become second nature. "What did your mama make?"
"Lasagna! And she let me help mix the cheese!"
Sarah stepped out onto the porch, wiping her hands on an apron. Her blonde hair was tied back, her skin radiant, the bruises and exhaustion of her past life completely erased. She looked at Matteo with a warmth that had been growing steadily over the past six months.
What had started as gratitude had evolved into a deep, profound connection. Matteo had visited them every day during Sarah's recovery. He had bought them this house, provided them with financial security, and protected them with an army of invisible guardians. But more than that, he had given them his heart, and in return, they had given him back his soul.
"Are you going to stand on the porch all night, Don Reichi, or are you going to come eat?" Sarah teased, a beautiful smile lighting up her face.
May you like
"I'm coming, Sarah," Matteo laughed, walking inside with Emma on his shoulder.
The dining room was warm and bright. As they sat down to eat, Matteo looked around the table. There were no mob captains here. No threats. No blood money. Just a family built from a wrong number, a broken heart, and a little girl’s incredible bravery.
