Chapter 8 - Shadows Fading

The glowing green lines of code and financial data scrolled across the massive projection screen, casting an unforgiving light over the faces of the boardroom.
"Look at row four hundred and twelve, Chairman Vance," Elena said, stepping closer to the console and pointing a laser marker at the screen. "That’s the exact timestamp when the logistics division's freight insurance fund was redirected through a Cayman Islands holding company called Vanguard Logistics Group."
Director Hayes stepped up to supplement the presentation, tapping her own tablet to mirror secure federal documents onto the display. "Our forensic team has verified every byte. Vanguard Logistics was incorporated five years ago using stolen corporate identities. And the primary signatory authorized to withdraw funds from that account wasn't Nathan Harrow... it was Marcus Vale, with secondary board approval signed off by Chairman Vance and Vice President Sterling."
Vice President Sterling half-rose from his leather chair, his face turning a mottled shade of crimson. "This is an outrageous fabrication! A disgruntled auditor and a rogue federal agency trying to stage a coup against a publicly traded company!"
"Sit down, Sterling," Director Hayes said coldly, her hand resting near her service weapon. "Federal marshals have already seized the physical servers at Marcus Vale's secondary residence, along with encrypted email correspondence proving you, Vance, and Vale conspired to bury the 2018 rare earth mineral audit."
Chairman Vance sank slowly back into his chair, the arrogant facade completely shattered. He looked old, tired, and cornered. The other directors around the table began shifting away from him, frantically whispering among themselves, desperate to distance their own names from the collapsing conspiracy.
"Nathan," Vance whispered hoarsely, looking up at me with pleading eyes. "We can handle this internally. We can restructure quietly without destroying the company’s stock value. Think of the shareholders..."
"The shareholders are why I'm standing here, Vance," I replied, my voice hard and steady. I walked to the head of the table and looked down at the men who had traded human lives and corporate integrity for hidden wealth. "You built a system that preyed on its own people, assuming that silence could be bought and auditor reports could be buried in abandoned warehouses."
I turned to look at Elena, who stood tall and proud, with Lily holding her hand and looking up at her mother with absolute adoration.

"Halden Logistics belongs to the people who actually do the work," I continued, turning back to the terrified board members. "And as of this exact second, every single asset frozen by the SEC is being transferred back into corporate restructuring funds to compensate the employees and audit teams you tried to silence."
Director Hayes nodded approvingly. "And for the gentlemen remaining at this table, federal marshals are waiting outside to escort you to a much smaller room."
