That evening, back at the Boston mansion, the house was filled with the sound of music.
Clare sat at the grand piano in the sunroom, playing a lively, joyful melody, while Elise sat beside her on the bench—having transferred herself expertly—picking out notes with one hand while holding her teddy bear with the other.
Thomas walked in carrying a tray of hot chocolate with marshmallow towers, setting it down on the low table.
Elise spun around in her chair, wheeling over to him and hugging his waist tightly.
“Daddy?” she asked, looking up with bright, dancing eyes.
“Yes, sweetheart?”
“Are we going to stay in this house forever?”
