Chapter 6 - The Cleansing Fire

Within forty-eight hours of Mark's signature hitting my desk, the corporate restructuring of NexusTech was executed with surgical precision. The board of directors, fully briefed on Mark's gross misconduct, corporate malfeasance, and the total backing of Sterling Global Holdings, voted unanimously to strip him of his CEO title and permanently ban him from the tech sector.
Mark’s name was scrubbed from every website, press release, and patent portfolio associated with the firm. The company was rebranded under a wholly-owned Sterling subsidiary, and a new executive team was installed to clean house.
As for Sarah, her betrayal didn't just cost her a wealthy benefactor; it cost her everything. Within days of Mark's financial ruin, the upscale apartment she rented in the city was evicted for non-payment of rent—rent that Mark had been secretly funding through corporate expense accounts that our forensic auditors immediately flagged and blocked. Friends from her social circle, realizing she was now a pariah associated with a disgraced fraudster, blocked her phone numbers and deleted her from their social media networks. She vanished from the high-society scene just as quickly as she had tried to climb into it.
I spent the following week completely reorganizing my life. I moved out of the suburban mansion associated with too many toxic memories, officially putting the property up for immediate sale. The proceeds were directly transferred into a trust fund exclusively designated for Leo’s future education and welfare.
My penthouse in Sterling Tower became our sanctuary. It was high above the noise of the city, secure, peaceful, and filled with genuine warmth. Every morning, I woke up to the sound of Leo's joyful laughter as he bounced in his crib, completely unaffected by the storm that had raged around us. He was surrounded by family, love, and stability.
My father, who had quietly watched my back from afar all these years, flew in from Zurich to personally congratulate me.

"I always knew you had the Sterling spine, my girl," my father said warmly, pouring two glasses of vintage champagne as we stood on the balcony overlooking the sunset. "You handled a viper's nest with the grace of a queen."
"I learned from the best, Dad," I smiled, clinking my glass against his. "And I'm never letting my guard down again."
