Chapter 2 - The Fall of the Titan

The text message flashed across my phone screen: "Clara, you psychotic bitch. You've just signed your own death warrant. Unfreeze those accounts or you will never see a single dime, and you will never see Leo again."
My breath hitched for a fraction of a second, not out of fear, but out of pure, unadulterated fury. He actually thought he could threaten me with my own child. He thought the quiet woman who baked cookies for his colleagues and managed the household was entirely dependent on his mercy. He had completely forgotten the Sterling family dynasty, a bloodline that had built industrial empires while Mark was still struggling to code his first web browser in a cramped college dorm.
I unlocked my phone, dialed my attorney’s direct line once more, and put it on speaker as the Uber sped down the highway toward my penthouse in the city center.
"Marcus," I said, my voice completely devoid of emotion. "Did Mark receive the notification?"
"Yes, Mrs. Sterling-Vance," Marcus replied, his voice calm and professional. "The moment the injunction went through, our automated asset recovery system froze the company's operating capital. The primary server routing for NexusTech has already experienced an automatic liquidity block. As major stakeholder holding eighty-two percent of the venture capital backing, your withdrawal effectively triggers a default clause with all institutional lenders."
"Good," I replied coldly. "He just threatened me regarding custody of our son. I want a complete restraining order filed before midnight. Attach the text message as Exhibit A."
"Consider it done. The security detail is already waiting at your downtown penthouse lobby. They will ensure absolute safety for you and young Master Leo."

By the time the Uber pulled up to the grand entrance of the Sterling Tower, a team of four private security operatives in sharp charcoal suits stood at attention. They gently unloaded Leo's stroller and carried our overnight bags, shielding us from the flashing lights of late-night paparazzi who somehow already smelled blood in the water.
Back in the mansion, Mark’s world was experiencing a structural collapse of apocalyptic proportions.
