Chapter 10 - A Family Built from Ashes

One year later.
St. Mary’s Cemetery was peaceful under the high summer sun. White roses and fresh lilies covered the marble steps of the Moretti mausoleum, blooming in rich contrast against the pale gray stone.
A small family stood before the marble angel guarding Isabella’s grave.
Sophia, now eight years old, healthy, radiant, and laughing, placed a beautifully framed watercolor painting right at the base of the headstone. It was a painting of the glasshouse in full bloom, surrounded by white birds taking flight into a clear blue sky.
"I brought you the new picture, Isabella," Sophia said softly, her small hand resting gently on the cool marble engraved with Isabella’s name. "Papa bought me new shoes, and they don't have holes in them. And Margaret showed me how to make the peanut butter cookies just like you used to."
Behind her, Daario stood with his arm wrapped securely around Margaret’s waist. On Margaret’s finger, a simple, elegant diamond ring caught the golden sunlight.
Daario looked down at the grave of his first daughter. For the first time in his life, there were no tears of bitterness, no dark cravings for vengeance, and no lingering shadows of regret.
He leaned down, placing a hand over Sophia’s, and whispered into the warm summer breeze.
"You saved her, Isabella," Daario said softly, his voice full of steady, unbreakable peace. "You saved us all."
Margaret rested her head against Daario’s shoulder, her hand reaching down to squeeze Sophia’s other hand.

Together, the three of them stood in the warm sunlight, no longer bound by fear or broken by grief, but united as a family—forged in tragedy, saved by courage, and bound forever by love.
They walked away from the mausoleum together, hand in hand, leaving the rain behind for good.
