PART 8: The Breach and the Battle

The sprawling corridors of the Kade estate turned into a battleground within minutes. Shouts echoed through the grand hallways, accompanied by the sharp, concussive cracks of gunfire. Silas Marchetti’s elite enforcers had breached the main foyer, smashing through the antique stained-glass windows and moving systematically through the mansion to eliminate all witnesses.
But they had underestimated the Quiet King on his own turf.
Weston moved through the shadows with lethal precision, his training and rage guiding every step. Beside him, Julian and a loyal faction of estate security officers cut off the invaders' advance at the grand staircase.
Clara stayed close behind Weston, holding the original documents inside a waterproof folder. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but the thought of Lily waiting safely below gave her the courage to press forward.
They fought their way down to the ground-floor hallway leading to the private library and the entrance to the panic shelter.
Suddenly, a door at the end of the hall burst open, and Silas Marchetti himself stepped out, flanked by two armed guards. Silas, an older man with silver hair and cold, reptilian eyes, held a pistol leveled directly at Weston's chest.
"Well, well, well," Silas sneered, a twisted smile playing on his lips. "The great Weston Kade, brought down by a stray dog and a piece of paper. Put your weapons down, Weston, or I'll flood this entire wing with gas and burn this house to the ground with everyone inside—including your precious new maid and her little bastard."
Weston stopped dead in his tracks. His finger rested lightly on the trigger of his pistol, his breathing controlled and steady. "You've lost, Silas. The documents are secure. The federal prosecutor already has encrypted copies synced to an automated dead-man's switch. If I die tonight, your entire empire, your assets, and your freedom are broadcast to every federal agency in the country."
Silas’s face contorted with rage. His hand trembled on the grip of his gun. "You bluffing bastard—"
"I don't bluff," Weston interrupted coldly.
Before Silas could pull the trigger, Clara stepped out from behind Weston’s broad shoulder. She didn't cower; she looked the crime lord straight in the eye, holding up the original parchment document.
"You stole my child," Clara said, her voice ringing clear and strong through the hallway. "You destroyed innocent lives just to cover up your greed. But your time is up, Silas. Everyone knows what you are."
Enraged beyond control, Silas shifted his aim toward Clara, screaming, "Then die with them!"
He fired.
The gunshot echoed deafeningly through the hall. But before the bullet could reach its target, Weston moved with superhuman speed. He lunged forward, throwing himself in front of Clara and taking the impact of the round in his left shoulder.

At the exact same instant, Julian and the estate guards returned fire. A volley of precise shots struck Silas Marchetti and his remaining guards, dropping them instantly to the marble floor.
Silas collapsed against the wall, sliding down into a lifeless heap. The war was over.
