Chapter 7 - THE TEST

True to form, high society didn't go down without a quiet, venomous whisper campaign.
As Ethan and Sarah began spending more time together—sharing quiet dinners at local diners, walking through public parks, and volunteering at the shelter—some of the remaining snobs in our extended business circle attempted to stir up trouble. Whispers circulated at high-end charity galas suggesting that Ethan was "lowering his standards" by dating a working-class single mother who didn't come from money or pedigree.
I watched quietly from a distance as one prominent socialite cornered Ethan at a downtown art gallery opening, making a snide, passive-aggressive remark about his new choice of partner.
Ethan didn't lose his temper. He didn't yell. Instead, he looked at the man with a gaze so piercing and calm that the socialite instantly stepped back.

"If genuine kindness, fierce dedication, and uncompromising integrity are what you consider 'low standards,' then I pity the hollow life you've built for yourself," Ethan said clearly, loud enough for everyone in the vicinity to hear. "Sarah is worth a thousand of the people in this room combined. If any of you have a problem with that, you are free to take your business elsewhere."
The socialite turned red and walked away in absolute humiliation. From that moment on, nobody ever dared to question Ethan's choices to his face again. He had proven that his loyalty could not be bought, and his values could not be compromised.
