Chapter 8 - A Haven for Mia and Lily

Three days later, the gates of the Collins Estate opened to welcome Clara home.

The dark, cold mansion had been transformed. Nathan had hired decorators to brighten the rooms with warm colors, flowers, and family pictures. The grand dining room, which had seen only quiet, formal meals, was now filled with balloons and a welcome-home banner painted by Mia and Lily.

When Clara stepped through the front door, supported by Nathan, the twin girls came running down the marble staircase, shouting with joy.

"Mommy! Mommy!"

Clara fell to her knees, hugging her daughters tightly, tears of happiness streaming down her face. "My beautiful girls... I missed you so much."

"Look, Mommy! Uncle Nathan gave us our own rooms!" Lily said, pulling her mother’s hand toward the upper floor. "Mine has pink walls, and Mia's has green ones! And there’s a big garden outside with a swingset!"

Nathan stood back, watching the scene with a warmth in his chest he had never experienced before. For thirty-five years, he believed that being a Collins meant carrying a heavy burden of cold duty, ambition, and isolation. Now, watching his sister and nieces, he realized what wealth was truly meant for.

That evening, the family sat together at the large dining table. There were no formal business discussions, no silent dinners under the watchful eye of a strict father. There was only the sound of children giggling, stories shared, and simple happiness.
