Chapter 7 - Confronting the Legacy

Nathan arrived at the hospital like a force of nature, two security guards following closely behind him. He threw open the door to Clara’s private suite.
Richard Sterling, dressed in an expensive suit with a fake, sympathetic smile, was standing over Clara’s bed, holding a pen out to her. Clara looked pale and overwhelmed, clutching the bedsheets tightly.
"Sign right here, Clara," Sterling was saying smoothly. "It’s a settlement. Ten million dollars. You'll never have to work again, and you won't have to deal with the stress of the company."
"Get away from her, Sterling," Nathan’s voice resonated through the room like thunder.
Sterling turned around, startled, but quickly regained his composure. "Nathan! I’m just trying to help your sister. She’s been through so much. A clean break from Collins Enterprises is best for everyone."
Nathan walked up to Sterling, took the document from his hand, and ripped it into pieces right in front of his face.
"You framed her fifteen years ago," Nathan said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. "You manipulated my father's paranoia, faked financial records, and stole fifteen years of her life. Did you really think I wouldn't find out?"
Sterling’s face turned pale. "That's... that's baseless slander!"
"We have the forensic accounting reports from 2011, Sterling," Davidson said, stepping into the room with two police officers behind him. "And the board of directors has just been notified of an emergency meeting to remove you and press criminal charges for fraud and corporate embezzlement."
Sterling looked at the officers, then back at Nathan’s cold blue eyes. Realizing his empire of lies had collapsed, he surrendered without a word as the officers escorted him out in handcuffs.

Clara let out a deep breath she seemed to have been holding for years. Nathan came to her side, sitting on the edge of the bed and holding her hand tightly.
"It’s over, Clara," Nathan whispered. "He will never hurt you again."
