Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

A week later, the city had settled into a new era of quiet stability. The news of the downfall of St. Helena Hospital and the complete restructuring of the Vance shipping routes dominated the headlines. The public knew nothing of the mafia war that had raged in the shadows; to the world, Don Alessandro Moretti was simply a powerful industrialist who had uncovered a massive medical corruption scheme and saved his newborn son.

It was a bright, sunny afternoon when I walked through the iron gates of the estate’s private garden. The roses were in full bloom, casting a sweet scent through the air.

I was not alone. Walking beside me was a woman named Clara Vance.

Clara was the younger sister of the real Valentina Vance. She had lived in London for the past eight years, entirely unaware that her older sister had died long ago and been replaced by an imposter. When my legal team had contacted her with the full truth and the evidence of how her family’s legacy had been stolen by Matteo and Elena, she had flown across the Atlantic immediately.

"I still can't believe it," Clara said softly, her eyes glistening with tears as she held a handkerchief to her lips. "All those years... I thought Valentina was living here with you, happy and building a life. I had no idea she was gone... and that a monster was wearing her name."

"I am deeply sorry, Clara," I said, stopping beside a stone fountain. "I was deceived as well, but that does not excuse my failure to see the truth sooner. Your sister deserved better."

"You couldn't have known," Clara said gently, looking up at me. She had the same dark hair and gentle spirit that the real Valentina had possessed before her illness. "You saved her memory, Alessandro. You exposed the people who ruined her life and tried to destroy yours."

"The Vance shipping empire has been restored entirely to your family's estate," I told her, handing her a leather portfolio. "You are now the sole owner and chairwoman of Vance Logistics. My syndicate will provide full security and operational support, but the ownership is entirely yours."

Clara looked at the documents, her hand trembling. "Why are you doing this? You could have absorbed the shipping lines into your own network. No one would have questioned it."

"Because honor demands it," I replied firmly. "My son will grow up knowing that his father built his empire on truth and justice, not theft. Your sister’s legacy belongs to you."

Clara looked at me with deep respect, wiping away a stray tear. "Thank you, Alessandro. You are a man of true nobility."

"Come," I smiled, gesturing toward the main terrace where Maria and Sophia were sitting with the baby. "There is someone I want you to meet."

We walked over to the sunlit terrace. Leo was resting in his silver-embroidered pram, kicking his feet happily in the warm sunlight. When Clara leaned over to look at him, her face lit up with immediate affection.

"He’s beautiful," she whispered, letting Leo grab her pinky finger. "He has a bright soul, Alessandro."

"He is the future," I said, standing proudly beside them.

For the first time in many years, the dark clouds that had hung over the Moretti manor were completely gone. The garden was filled with light, laughter, and the gentle sounds of a new beginning.
